Paroles de Chanson – Aujourd’hui Je Pleure

Today, we will be learning les paroles de la chanson, Aujourd’hui je pleure by G. G. Vikey.

In our last poésie et chanson lesson, we learnt that songs and poems are a great way to learn a new language. They are easier to learn and besides learning a cool new song, you learn new words and pronunciations.

Unlike in our last lesson, today you will be translating the lyrics on your own with the help of a dictionary.

Just take 20 minutes out to listen, learn it and translate.

Let me know what you think the song means in the comment box below.

You are allowed to reply in English.

Fun Fact: While writing out the lyrics, les paroles, and checking for errors, I realised that all these years, I never really realised who he was singing to. Mind. Blown.

We really do learn every day.

Paroles de Chanson – Aujourd’hui Je Pleure

Je te revois, je te vois étoile

Mais plus comme autrefois

Auparavant, je riais étoile

Mais aujourd’hui, je pleure

Te souviens-tu de ces jeunes gens

Qui, la main dans la main

Te regardaient et te confiaient

Tout joyeux, leur bonheur

Je te revois, je te vois étoile

Mais plus comme autrefois

Auparavant, je riais étoile

Mais aujourd’hui, je pleure

On s’est promis en ta présence

De s’aimer pour toujours

Mais, seulement, vois-tu, étoile

L’un de nous a trahi

Je te revois, je te vois étoile

Mais plus comme autrefois

Auparavant, je riais étoile

Mais aujourd’hui, je pleure

Pendant des jours

Pendant des mois

Je suis resté fidèle

Au souvenir de mon amour

Ses baisers, ses caresses

Je te revoie, Je te voie étoile

Mais plus comme autrefois

Auparavant, je riais étoile

Mais aujourd’hui, je pleure

I hope you enjoy the song.

I tried to translate as best as I could seeing as I am complete beginner to French. From what I gather it is a song of heartbreak because it talks about kisses and caresses but also betrayal and viewing the person differently than before.

Oui Diandre, I’m glad that you tried. Je suis fier de toi, I’m proud of you.

It is a song about heartbreak, do you know who he’s singing to?

I can’t determine if he is talking to God, or to someone who may have passed away or just the plain sky/star. He mentions both him and his love being in their presence before but now it’s just him after he stayed faithful for days and months
